Professor Johnathon Krull
What is a degree in philosophy good for nowadays?
Well, if you want intrinsic benefits, it makes you a better thinker, hopefully, and a more disciplined person as a whole. I think it also makes you a more well rounded person because it connects with pretty much all other areas of academic endeavor at least in many other practical areas too. So, philosophers are responsible for a great deal of innovation and design in many other areas. Extrinsically, in terms of what jobs you can get: teaching, being a lawyer, being a stockbroker, theology—so, seminary stuff like that.
Are DMA majors smelly?
I think if I could answer that question that would say more about me than them.
Why did the community bikes disappear?
Yeah, I didn’t know they existed, so I don’t know why.
Which philosopher do you most closely associate yourself with?
I think Aristotle with a mix of Kierkegaard.
Alright, why?
I like Aristotle’s gentle skepticism combined with a hope for knowledge regarding the external world. So, he’s never willing to just accept things on face value but, he’s also willing to find the truth about things. And whenever I read Kierkegaard, I think that one, he’s either just right, or two, it’s just too beautiful not to be true.
How did you start enjoying philosophy?
Well, I think I grew up asking some of these questions, but the first time I ever remember I was a junior in high school. There was some sort of… it was called theory of knowledge. The questions were just so good that they were addicting. So I started reading some philosophy at that point and just liked it all the way through college, too, because I could do a little bit of everything.
What was your childhood like?
I want to say normal, but I don’t know. I read a lot; I’ve got a family that I like. It was a good childhood. I really liked it. I grew up in southern Minnesota and had a good church…had a good experience.
Can you cook?
I am learning. So it depends on what. I think I’m better at breakfast foods than a lot of other stuff, but I’m gradually expanding as time goes by.
Coffee D or Red eye?
I’ve only been to Coffee D.
What did you purchase?
Some sort of hot chocolate, but it was iced hot chocolate. It was actually good.
What’s your favorite car?
I like the Mclaren F 1, but I also like some of the Lamborghinis. Ferrari’s also very nice. Probably the Porsche 9-11. I mean, I like all the others but, growing up I think that’s the one I liked the best.

The city of Huntington is filled with?
I’m not quite sure. I spend most of my time walking back and forth from my apartment to this office. I have a lot to do, but I do like the Sunken Garden, so I’ll say interesting stonework.
(blank)_ 08 for president.
I don’t know.

You really can’t compare Red Eye and Coffee D. They are two absolutely different places to socialize. A better comparison would had been Coffee D and 4 Cups (509).
