PREVIEW: DMA students prepare for film, animation showcases

The annual digital media arts showcase will be held in May. The film showcase will be 7-9 p.m. May 10 and the animation showcase will be 7-9 p.m. May 14 in Zurcher Auditorium in the Merillat Center for the Arts.

The film showcase will feature live-action short films; documentaries and music videos.

Judging categories include cinematography, editing, music videos, music, acting and special effects.

Tyler Beasley, a junior film production major is planning on showing a short live-action film set in the 80’s.

“It’s a satire about our culture’s stress on becoming ‘successful,’” he said, “If it doesn’t make you laugh it will make you cry tears of sadness.”

Sophomore film production major Kayla Erb-Lane said she plans to submit a project to the music category, which is new this year.

“During the semester I recorded and mixed some covers of songs,” she said. “I ended up making a music video to some of them and will be entering at least one of the videos.”

All of the recording for these songs took place in the foley pit in Becker Hall. One of the songs covered was Worn by Tenth Avenue North and was performed by HU students Wes Johnson and Samantha Brown.

The night will projects from all grade levels and awards will be given out at the end of the night.

There is no admission charge for those in attendance and both the animation and film shows are open to the public.
