Student Activites Board has decided to hire a sports director for next year’s board.
The sports director will facilitate athletic events, including one of SAB’s major events, powderpuff football.
“We felt like it was unfair to the event and the people in the event that we were unable to do the best we possibly could,” said Kyle Metzger, coordinator of SAB, “We desire for the event to be really successful.”
Metzger said the position is a bit of an experiment because it is something they made up themselves.
Stephanie Morin, next year’s SAB Student Director, said she hopes the position will improve the consistency of rules during powderpuff season.
“I hope the sports director’s position will help alleviate some of the competitive tension that comes with the game,” she said, “and that revised rules will provide consistency and an overall better powder-puff experience for students.”
The position will be paid, just like all other SAB positions.
“Ideally we will hire someone who has connections with professors in the PERC and elsewhere on campus that can help us with recruiting faculty/staff referees for the coming season,” Morin said, “At the very least, it will be much less confusing with a designated person on the board to contact with sports-rules related matters”
